Long-term care

Long-term care can support with self-care activities and independent living.

A recent Social Protection Committee report “Adequate social protection for long-term care needs in an ageing society” (that followed the Staff Working Document on Long-Term Care that accompanied the Social Investment Package) highlights the various aspects of a multidisciplinary approach. Long-Term care is relevant for the Europe 2020 strategy and many of its objectives, such as sound public finances in ageing societies, a high level of employment and the reduction of poverty. As part of efforts to coordinate economic reforms, the EU has a yearly cycle of policy coordination, known as the EU Semester.  In 2014 six states received recommendations on LTC In order to ensure the efficiency and financial sustainability of social protection systems.

EuroHealthNet has produced a policy précis on health equity and long-term care available here.
