Mental health and Well-being in Older People - Making it Happen: Conference Conclusions

This report summarise the outcomes of the conference "Promotion of Mental Health and Well-being of Older People - Making it Happen' which was held in Madrid on 28th-29th June 2010.

The conference was co-organised by the European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumers and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of Spain. It was an event under the European Pact for Mental Health and Well-being, with the support of the Presidency of Spain of the European Union.

Ageing and Employment - Identification of Good Practice to Increase Job Opportunities and Maintain Older Workers in Employment

A key element of European economic and social strategy is raising of the employment rate through extending working life. How this can be encouraged in practice without lowering living standards, endangering attempts to improve work-life balance, and undermining the pursuit of equity, economic efficiency and community depends on finding good practice approaches at organisational and institutional levels.

The project on 'Ageing and Employment: Identification of Good Practice to Increase Job Opportunities and Maintain Older Workers in Employment' (AEIGP) was designed to shed light on the emergence of good practice drawing on the experience from eleven Member States. The project's final report is now available.


The objective of MULTILINKS is to investigate how changing social contexts, from macro-societal to micro-interpersonal, affect social integration, well-being and intergenerational solidarity across different European nations. Ageing Workforce towards an Active Retirement (AWARE)

Co-funded Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme, the AWARE project (2010-2013) is developing a network hosted on a telematic platform for older workers and retired people. Social network services (chatting, blogging, etc) will be complemented by specific services oriented to the needs of older workers and active retired people. It seeks to meet the structural needs of the ageing workforce, including modules on: adapting the workplace to older workers; sharing knowledge and expertise, including through remote short-term contracts for older or retired people; and ICT training for older workers.

Senior European Volunteers Exchange Network (SEVEN)

SEVEN's member organisations include NGOs, local governments, universities and research centres with at least 5 years' experience in the co-ordination and management of senior volunteer programs. Their website offers information on the achievements and future outlook of projects involving senior volunteers, aimed at prospective volunteers as well as organisations and local governments.

The purpose of this report is to identify the key factors for successful health promotion for a target group as heterogeneous as the group of older people (50+).

EuroSafe - Injuries Among Older People

This policy briefing, produced by EuroSafe (European Association for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion) highlights the burden of injuries of older people and provides evidence for good practices which prevent these injuries.

Active Ageing and Solidarity Between Generations - A Statistical Portrait of the European Union 2012

The European Union's population structure is changing and becoming progressively older - at the beginning of 2010, there were 87 million people aged 65 and over in the EU, more than 17 % of the total population.

In response to demographic challenges being faced within Europe, the European Union designated 2012 as the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. The overall objective of the European Year is to facilitate the creation of an active ageing culture in Europe based on a society for all ages.

As Europeans live longer and healthier lives, governments are looking for ways to involve older persons more in society and to keep them active. Eurostat is marking the European Year by publishing this book which contains statistics on topics such as demography, healthcare, pensions, volunteering and adult learning.

EY2012 Stakeholder Coalition - Roadmap

The Roadmap provides an overview of the Coalition's joint commitments in ensuring that all relevant stakeholders will be actively involved in the implementation of the EY2012 and the European Union will do its outmost to complement and support Member States' actions aiming at creating an Age-Friendly European Union by 2020 through the promotion of active ageing and solidarity between generations.
