This website, launched by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation aims to get us to relfect on what 'growing older' means and how important you will be when you are 'old'.

Eurostat - 40% more women than men among the EU population aged 65 and over

How many more women than men are there among the total population and among the elderly? Is the share of women at risk of poverty or social exclusion higher than for men? How do employment rates for women and men differ by education level? Do women buy different goods and services over the internet than men?

Answers to these questions can be found in this News Release, published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on the occasion of the International Women's Day on 8 March 2012. The tables in this News Release only show a small part of the large amount of gender based data available at Eurostat. Equinet - Tackling Ageism and Discrimination

This Equinet perspective focuses on the situation and experience of older people and on the diversity of older people. To enable and inform this perspective, an Equinet carried out a survey of the work of equality bodies.

The overall purpose is to mobilise and support the engagement of equality bodies in the work of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. The European Year presents a valuable opportunity for the equality bodies to develop their work on the age ground and to bring the issues of older people to the fore.

COFACE-Disability - Active Ageing for Family Carers

Family carers are non-professional persons who provide primary assistance with activities in daily life, either in part or in whole, towards a dependent person in their immediate circle. In most Member States, the lack of a network of close-to-home services often leaves family members with no other option but to provide informal care for close relatives who have a disability or serious illness and/or one or more care needs from growing old.

This care provision, which often impinges on their family, personal and working lives, can be very difficult for many family carers. The lack of appropriate support and recognition of social security/employment rights means that these family carers may accumulate physical and mental stress that will badly damage their quality of life and well-being as they themselves get older.

This factsheet, provided from the confederation of family organisations in the European Union (COFACE) outlines the age and gender aspects of family carers, and presents recommendations for Member States and European Union institutions.

Activating Senior Potential in Ageing Europe

The ageing of society and the workforce is one of the dominant developments in modern European societies. This development faces society with the challenge how to use the senior potential, both inside and outside the labour market.

This project aims for an ambitious, exhaustive examination of the forces and mechanisms behind employers', civil society organisations' and governments' behaviour and resulting societal arrangements. To that end, it will use large-scale surveys for the analyses of employers' behaviour, and desk research and interviews to map government behaviour.
